Hidden Assembly comes to Portland
An exhibition curated by Yaelle Amir called Hidden Assembly travels from Cleveland, OH to Portland this Winter; works will be at both PNCA and Newspace. We are excited to be included along with projects by Art Handlers Alliance (AHA-NY), Gulf Labor Artist Coalition, Joao Enxuto & Erica Love, Marisa Jahn (Studio REV-), Betty Marin, Huong Ngo & Hong-An Truing, Patricia Vasquez, Laurel Ptak/Wages for Facebook, and Andrew Norman Wilson
"The starting point of this exhibition is the recognition that under capitalism most production is rendered invisible. Heightened by the expanded tech field, global outsourcing, and the rise of precarious work, the labor that people perform is obscured or eliminated--replaced by clickable icons and automated responses, and embodied in the products that populate our surroundings. The exhibition Hidden Assembly explores how much of global labor is shrouded by increasing geographic distance and the conditions of commodity manufacture itself, and ways in which artists have foregrounded workers through identification, employer and consumer education, and activist initiatives."
